Overview

The James Lab at the Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) in Seattle, WA is seeking a motivated Research Technician II to join our highly collaborative team. Research in the James Lab focuses on the study of interactions between autoreactive T cells and target tissue.  The lab uses flow cytometry and emerging cutting-edge technologies, including stem cell differentiation and single cell techniques to answer fundamental questions about human disease, to identify key targets that provoke autoimmunity, to develop informative biomarkers, and to explore mechanisms of disease progression.

Responsibilities

A Research Technician II conducts investigative work for research projects, performing experimental procedures and managing sophisticated laboratory equipment with precision.

Duties include:

  • Contribute to progress reports including gathering, organizing, and interpreting data and preparing data for presentations and manuscripts.
  • Confer with other scientific personnel; attend seminars and technical meetings.
  • Initiate and conduct experimental protocols with minimal instruction.
  • Preparing laboratory reagents, chemicals, stocks, cultures and cell lines.
  • Operating a variety of laboratory instruments such as spectrometers, plate readers, PCR machines, measuring instruments and devices.
  • Perform chemical, physical, or biological analyses following written protocols.
  • Preparing fractionated samples from blood using sterile techniques.
  • Maintain lab records, prepare slides and conduct literature searches. Other duties include conducting lab inventory, preparing progress reports, and conducting experimental protocols with minimal instruction.

Qualifications

Requires a BA/BS in a scientific field and a minimum of 2-3 years of progressively responsible work experience in a scientific research laboratory. Successful completion and documentation of experiments involving mammalian tissue culture and multiparameter flow cytometry required. Prior experience with pluripotent stem cells would be preferred.

 

Must have strong mathematical, computer, data analysis, and statistical analysis skills. Will also need knowledge of proper operation of complex laboratory instruments and the ability to perform complex assays. Must have good verbal and writing skills, and have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Compensation

$53,880 to $79,200 per year
