Overview

The Animal Cage Washer is needed to provide the basic husbandry needs of the rodents housed in the vivarium by cleaning and sterilizing caging and other equipment while maintaining supplies and the general appearance and cleanliness of the facility. 

 

This is an essential position which means that punctuality as well as the ability to report to work, even during inclement weather, and on some holidays or other times when BRI suspends operations, is required.

Responsibilities

  • Operating cage washers and autoclaves to include basic maintenance
    • Filter and drain cleaning
    • Monitoring equipment sanitation effectiveness by monitoring cage washer temperature
    • Processing water samples for pH monitoring and biological indicators for autoclave function
  • Dumping dirty bedding
  • Following standard operating procedures for dealing with potentially hazardous waste
  • Filling water bottles
  • Wrapping items to be sterilized
  • Maintaining logs
  • Cleaning shelves
  • Sweeping and mopping floors

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to operate cage cleaning/sterilizing equipment; requires continuous standing
  • Proven ability to push/pull 100 pounds, and lift/carry 50 pounds

Compensation

$20.00 to $24.63 per hour
