Overview

The Harrison Lab is searching for a dynamic Research Technician III. The Research Technician III will be responsible for providing technical laboratory support for biomedical research projects performing both routine and non-routine lab procedures. As well as performing semi-independent research involving specialized technical applications requiring a high degree of scientific skill. 

Responsibilities

  • Preparing laboratory reagents, chemicals, stocks, cultures and cell lines
  • Basic molecular biology (cloning, plasmid isolation and transformation)
  • Production and purification of proteins
  • Working with mice, including immunization and surgeries if this is the focus of the project
  • Preparing samples from human blood, stool and tissue using sterile technique
  • Maintain laboratory records by recording detailed data, including photography and computer input, in a literate and thorough manner
  • Conduct lab inventory, complete purchase orders for hardware, glassware, and supplies
  • Prepare slides for light or fluorescent microscopy
  • Conduct literature search to assist in determining research methods
  • Prepare progress reports including gathering, organizing, and interpreting data and preparing data for presentations and manuscript
  • Initiate and conduct experimental protocols with minimal instruction.
  • Guide and assist research fellows, students, and medical staff members with their research. Provide expertise and training in methodology, basic laboratory procedures and use of equipment. Act as a resource for technical questions from the medical and research community at large

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in a scientific field and basic laboratory skills; emphasizing chemistry, biology, medical technology, engineering or a closely related field, plus additional academic study in an appropriate scientific field
  • Minimum of three to five years’ work experience in a progressively responsible research laboratory experience in a position such as Research Technician II.
  • May require skill in animal surgery techniques
  • Must have basic mathematical, data recording, computer database, data and statistical analysis skills.
  • Prior work in a laboratory environment, especially multi-parameter flow cytometry, molecular biology or protein production, preferred
  • Will frequently perform basic programming to set up databases and consolidate data in Access and Excel
  • Must have strong verbal and writing skills and have the ability to work in a team environment

Compensation

$63,000.00 to $95,130.00 per yr.
