Overview

The research in the Hamerman Lab will lead to a better mechanistic understanding of how myeloid cells contribute to autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The student will benefit by learning biological laboratory techniques including DNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis as well as how to keep laboratory notes. The student will also learn about cells of the immune system and autoimmune diseases.

This position is for 10 hours a week, within the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. 

 

To be considered for this position the student must have completed a financial aid application and received a work study award. Proof of work study eligibility is necessary to complete this application.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare media and reagents, such as stock solutions.
  • Isolate DNA and perform PCR
  • Keep detailed notes of laboratory results
  • Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory area.            
  • Clean and maintain lab equipment.
  • Check and replenish supplies.
  • Assist with experiments as needed. 

 The Lab Aide will perform routine work in a research laboratory including providing general assistance to technical laboratory personnel to help keep the lab in a clean and orderly state.

Qualifications

  • Meet Washington state residency requirements for state financial aid with evidence of a work-study award
  • Be enrolled at least half-time in an eligible program at a participating college - position must relate to program of study
  • Maintain academic progress
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

This position is solely open to candidates who are work-study eligible.  

Compensation

$21.50 to $25.37 per hour
