Overview

BRI offers college undergraduates the chance to expand their learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom through its in-person Summer Internship Program. The 8-week internship offers top-achieving and highly motivated science students the opportunity to work and learn under the mentorship of BRI's renowned researchers. The 2026 summer internship will run from June 22nd – August 14th, 2026.

 

This position is for 20 hours per week and will be paid $21.30 per hour.

Qualifications

Interns will:

  • Be assigned to a research laboratory for the duration of the internship
  • Work directly with a mentor in the lab to perform experiments and/or analyze data
  • Attend laboratory-specific meetings
  • Attend and participate in organized educational programs with other summer interns, including journal clubs, seminar series, and roundtable discussions
  • Present research findings at the end of the internship at a research symposium

 

Requirements:

  • Enrollment in a college or university with completion of at least one year education at this level, though preference will be given to students that have completed at least 2 years of college coursework by the start of the internship
  • Entering the summer internship BEFORE the final year (or semester/quarter) of undergraduate studies
  • College coursework in the sciences, preferably in biology, is required
  • You must have authrization to work in the US. This internship is not eligible for visa sponsorship

  • Provide 1-2 letters of reference from a college or university professor. At least one letter should be from a professor from a science course. This letter of reference should be confidential and emailed directly by your recommender to summerinternship@benaroyaresearch.org by February 13th, 2026.
