Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) is an internationally recognized medical research institute and a leader in understanding and resolving immune-mediated diseases. We are committed to predicting, preventing, reversing, and curing diseases of the immune system, including type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, allergy, and asthma.
We currently are recruiting for an outstanding data scientist to join our collaborative bioinformatics group. Our team partners closely with bench scientists and clinical researchers to generate insights into immune system function in health and disease. We strive to be involved throughout the research process, from study design and data generation to analysis, interpretation, and communication. We leverage a combination of statistical, computational, and machine learning/AI-driven approaches to analyze complex, high-dimensional datasets and accelerate scientific discovery.
As a member of our team, you will develop creative approaches at the intersection of data collection, integration, and analysis. You’ll work with a range of genomic, cellular, and clinical data types, adding statistical rigor to the experimental process. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about using data science and bioinformatic approaches to further our vision of a healthy immune system for every individual.
Strong analytical skills, proficiency in a modern programming language used in data science (e.g. R, Python, SAS, Matlab, Scala, Java), excellent communication and time management skills and the ability to work in both a collaborative environment and independently. Experience in the biological sciences and bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput “-omics” data is preferred but not required. Experience with machine learning and AI methods (e.g., clustering, classification, dimensionality reduction) preferred. Rank/position will be contingent on relevant education and experience, and ability to independently manage projects and collaborations.
Works under guidance while building domain and technical expertise. Requires a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, or other life science with a strong understanding of the principals of bioinformatics, and 0-3 years related experience. Master’s degree preferred.

Benaroya Research Institute (BRI) has a bold mission: to advance the science to predict, prevent, reverse and cure immune system diseases, from autoimmune disease to cancer to asthma and allergies. We create detailed pictures of the immune system in health and disease, aiming to understand how disorders start and how to rebalance the immune system back to health. Equipped with innovative tools and robust biorepositories, our team chips away at the biggest mysteries behind these conditions to work toward our vision of a healthy immune system for everyone. BRI is a nonprofit research institute based in Seattle and affiliated with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. We collaborate with clinicians and patients to accelerate the path from innovative lab discoveries to life-changing patient care.
At BRI, each individual is valued as an important contributor to our vision and mission. Consider making a difference by joining our team. Because together, we are powering possibility.
